“Mentor Coaching is a collaborative learning process through which coaches receive feedback based on observed or recorded sessions to support them in further developing their unique coaching style and coaching skills in alignment with the ICF Core Competencies.”
An Analogy
Here's a thing about redwoods: their roots only run 6 to 12 feet deep. For a tree that can grow past 300 feet, that shouldn't be enough. What makes it work is that redwood roots spread wide and intertwine underground with the roots of the trees around them — an interlocked network that holds each tree upright, even in storms, even in wind that would topple a tree standing alone.

Competency-based feedback delivered in a trauma-informed way.
What is at stake in mentor coaching is primarily enabling the feedback to be heard. I lean on my trauma-informed and somatic coaching trainings to set the stage accordingly so you're not dreading the moment we look together at the stretches.
Multiple opportunities to support your own coaching style.
In the 1:1 and group mentor coaching spaces, I include real client scenarios tailored to the audience you serve and I support you in illuminating pieces if the inner discussion, aka what's going on in your soma while you're coaching.
3 hours of 1:1 mentor coaching entirely tailored to your needs.
I don't believe in “one size fits all” approach so we are co-creating a layout of those 3 hours of individual mentor coaching to meet you where you are. It can be 3 sessions of 1 hour, 4 sessions of 45 minutes, 2 sessions of 1 hour and 2 sessions of 30 minutes depending on the amount of recordings we want to bring into light, if we want a blend of recorded and live demonstrations etc.
Group mentor coaching portion welcomes 6 students.
Even if ICF allows up to 10 mentees in a group mentor coaching session, I set the limit at 6 mentees in order to ensure impeccable support in the group mentor coaching portion of the program. I have a decade of teaching experience behind me and I do know what a small group can offer in terms of emulation. Among several components, how many we are in the room matters.
Creative ways to improve fluency in embodying the ICF competencies.
As there are many ways to learn a new language, we weave different mentor coaching techniques such as improv, role play, somatic to expose you to the competencies and stay away from ticking boxes approach.
In-between sessions opportunities to go deeper.
If “homework” doesn't bring painful memories, I would say yes. It will be the most enjoyable homework you've came across thought (at least that is my intention). As in a coaching session, there is integration within and outside of it. I will offer -in a responsive way- articles, demos, exercises, practices as optional opportunities to support what emerges for you.
Mentor coaching is way more that one requirement in your ICF credentialing journey.
